Never trust a demon.
Never trust your heart.
And never trust the woman who holds it.
In Body of the Crime, a beast craved a beauty and oh, how she ravaged him.
I received this book for free from Author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Paranormal Romance is my first love. The only genre I used to read when I got into reading so it holds a special place in my heart. I’m always looking for books of this genre so when I saw that R. Scarlett was writing a New Adult Paranormal series, how could I pass that up? I mean, it’s my two loves coming together!!!
Body of the Crime is book two in the Blackest Gold series and I just have to say that R. Scarlett really stepped up her game with the sequel. I know people are always afraid of the second book in a series because of the “second book syndrome” but what is that? I don’t know because BoTC doesn’t fall under that category.
After the ending of Vein of Love we’re left wondering what the relationship between Tensley and Molly will be like. Especially, since Tensley’s feelings toward Molly were becoming more clear. But nothing comes easy for these two. Molly has been deeply effected by the events in book one and it’s starting to shape her into another person. One that goes out to hunt for the source of her nightmares. Molly Darling isn’t afraid of monsters anymore, now they should fear her.
In this haunting and mysterious book, R. Scarlett gives some of the best sexual tension! Tensley and Molly’s chemistry will have your ereader melting at times and others screaming at the page for them to kiss. Because, they have to kiss. They should always be kissing.
Both characters also go through immense character growth. Molly, especially. She’s really found her voice in this society of demons and doesn’t cower but stands up for herself. And Tensley, oh my baby. He’s finally being more vulnerable, showing a more loving, romantic side–as romantic as Tensley can get. He’s still a grumpy, alpha but he also shows more of his protective side and let me tell you, an overprotective Tensley will do thingsssss to you!
Honestly, I was so emotionally invested with this book. Maybe too much because as soon as I finished I started begging R. Scarlett for book three. Body of the Crime ends on a cliffhanger that leaves your mind reeling and wanting to know what happens because THINGS ARE GOING TO GO DOWN! Lots of things.
Body of the Crime approaches paranormal romance with unique twists and turns, keeping the reader on their toes. There isn’t another series that can touch what the Blackest Gold series does. From the mythology to the characters to the society of the paranormal, R. Scarlett dazzles readers with her creativity. If you liked Vein of Love you are going to love and obsess over BotC!
